Guardians Announce Progressive Field Renovation Plans for 2027 Season

The Cleveland Guardians organization presented detailed renovation plans for Progressive Field during a press conference at the ballpark on Wednesday, outlining a $95 million transformation scheduled to begin immediately following the 2026 season. The project will reconfigure seating in multiple sections, create new social gathering spaces, and upgrade concessions areas while preserving the stadium’s iconic architectural elements.

Team president Chris Antonetti emphasized that the renovations respond directly to fan feedback collected over the past two years through surveys and focus groups. The most significant changes include removing 2,400 upper-deck seats to create more spacious layouts, adding standing room areas with views of both the field and downtown skyline, and constructing a new left-field district featuring local food vendors and interactive exhibits celebrating Cleveland baseball history.

The Guardians have committed to completing the work in two phases to minimize disruption, with the first phase targeting areas behind home plate and along the third-base line. Construction will occur during the off-season months, with all work scheduled for completion before Opening Day 2028. The team has secured financing through a combination of private investment and existing lease agreements with the city of Cleveland.

Progressive Field, which opened in 1994, last underwent major renovations in 2015 when the organization installed new videoboards and redesigned the right-field corner. The upcoming project aims to modernize facilities while maintaining the intimate atmosphere that has made the venue a favorite among players and visiting fans. Guardians officials stated that current season ticket holders will have priority access to new seating options when they become available.
