Cleveland Hopkins Unveils Expanded Terminal C Concourse

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport officially opened its expanded Terminal C concourse this week, marking the completion of a three-year, $180 million modernization project. The expansion adds six new gates to the terminal, bringing the total to 18 gates dedicated to domestic regional carriers. Airport officials gathered with Mayor Justin Bibb and Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne to cut the ribbon on the project, which also includes upgraded passenger lounges, expanded dining options, and enhanced baggage handling systems.

The renovation addresses years of capacity concerns as passenger traffic has steadily increased at Hopkins following the pandemic recovery. Airport Director Robert Kennedy stated that the facility was operating near maximum capacity during peak travel periods, necessitating the expansion to maintain service levels. The new concourse features floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of the airfield, sustainable building materials, and improved accessibility features throughout.

Local construction firms completed much of the work, with over 400 jobs created during the peak construction phase. The project remained on budget and timeline despite supply chain challenges that affected similar infrastructure projects nationwide. Airlines operating from Terminal C have already begun utilizing the new gates, with Delta Connection and United Express among the primary carriers benefiting from the additional capacity.

Airport officials project that the expansion will support an additional 1.2 million passengers annually, strengthening Cleveland’s position as a regional aviation hub. Future phases of airport development are already in planning stages, including potential international terminal improvements and additional parking structures to accommodate growing demand through 2030.
