Yankees Complete Sweep at the Jake, 8-4
It’s a tough one to swallow, Cleveland. The Yankees swept the Guardians at Progressive Field for the first time since 2007, capping a brutal three-game series with an 8-4 final on Wednesday afternoon. Cleveland has now dropped six of seven.

Standout Performers
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (NYY): Chisholm went 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI, a walk, and a triple — his big hit doing the most damage in a pivotal inning.
Angel Martinez (CLE): Rodón gave up a homer to Angel Martinez on just his second pitch of the game before settling in. Martinez provided the lone early spark for the home side.
Carlos Rodón (NYY): The left-hander allowed just four hits while improving to 11-5 in his career vs. Cleveland — only his sixth start since undergoing offseason elbow surgery.
How It Unfolded
Chisholm’s two-run triple highlighted a three-run second inning when the Yankees capitalized on two Guardians errors. The Tribe hung tough and knotted things up at three, but the Yankees broke the 3-all tie with three runs in the sixth to chase Messick. Trent Grisham tripled with one out after successfully challenging a called third strike, then scored ahead of a David Fry off-target throw home with an evasive headfirst slide. Rodón was nearly untouchable after the first, and the bullpen closed it out with ease — a gut-punch series finale for the home crowd.
What’s Next
The Guardians open a three-game home series against the Detroit Tigers on Friday, with RHP Tanner Bibee (1-7) getting the ball for the opener. Cleveland needs a reset — and fast. The AL Central lead won’t protect itself.
