Rangers 10, Guardians 0 — Series Finale | Globe Life Field, Arlington, TX
Well, Cleveland, this one stings. The Guardians couldn’t carry Saturday’s momentum into Sunday’s rubber match, getting dominated from wire to wire in a 10-0 shutout loss to the Texas Rangers. Two-time Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom earned his 101st career victory, striking out six — including the last four batters he faced — and posting a 1.26 ERA in six home starts this season. Cleveland simply had no answer.
By the Numbers
- Final Score: Rangers 10, Guardians 0
- Guardians offense: 0 runs on 6 hits, 0 errors; Rangers put up 10 runs on 16 hits
- Joey Cantillo (L, 4-3): 7 strikeouts in 5 innings, but surrendered 7 runs and the first three Texas home runs
- Jacob deGrom (W, 5-4): 6 strikeouts, 2 walks, 101st career win
- Texas HRs: Foscue (2-run, 1st inning), Josh Jung, Wyatt Langford, Michael Helman
- Ezequiel Duran: 4 hits, 3 RBI including a two-run double in a four-run third
- Guardians hits: Kwan (2-for-game), DeLauter, Ángel Martínez, David Fry, Patrick Bailey each added singles
- Guardians record: 37-30; held scoreless for the sixth time this season
How It Went Wrong
Foscue’s two-run homer in the first inning put Texas up to stay, and it never got better from there. Jung’s eighth homer highlighted a four-run third for Texas, and Langford — in just his third game back from a 39-game absence due to a right forearm strain — made it 7-0 with a solo shot in the fourth. Cantillo worked hard, but the damage was done early.
After striking out José Ramírez with the bases loaded to end the fifth, deGrom came right back and fanned the Guardians’ Nos. 3-5 hitters in the sixth — a masterclass of vintage deGrom dominance. Peyton Grey, Tyler Alexander, and Luis Curvelo finished off Texas’s eighth shutout of the season.
Series Result & What’s Next
The Rangers took two of three against Cleveland in this series. It’s a tough way to end a road trip, but the Tribe still sits atop the AL Central. For deGrom, it was his 261st career start and his first ever against Cleveland — the only team he had never previously faced.
The Guardians are back home Monday night, where righty Gavin Williams (9-3, 3.20 ERA) looks to become the first MLB starter to reach 10 wins when Cleveland hosts the New York Yankees. After the shellacking today, a bounce-back performance from Williams and a home crowd at The Land is exactly what this team needs.
