
Northeast Ohio hosted a memorable spring for college baseball, as two standout Ohio programs — Denison University and Baldwin Wallace University — delivered deep postseason runs and put the state on the national map at Classic Auto Group Park home of the Lake County Captains.
The No. 1 Denison Big Red capped one of the most dominant seasons in Division III history by winning the program’s first national championship, defeating No. 6 Endicott 4-3 in 10 innings in the decisive Game 3 of the best-of-three series on June 4. - Game 3: Denison 4, Endicott 3 (10 innings) — Down 3-0 early, the Big Red rallied behind a solo homer from Max Fishbein, dominant relief pitching from Devin Parker (7.1 scoreless innings, 8 strikeouts), and a walk-off hit by Jack Lutte that scored Kelly Crittenberger.
Cade Nowik was named Most Outstanding Player of the College World Series, with Nowik, Fishbein, Eron Vega, Lutte, Erik Sundgren, Cooper Marrs, and Parker earning All-Tournament honors. After an opening-season loss, Denison reeled off 44 straight wins, went 16-0 in NCAC play, and showed relentless resilience throughout the tournament.Baldwin Wallace’s Strong World Series JourneyBaldwin Wallace also made noise on the national stage, advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series with a strong 37-12 overall record and a 9-3 postseason mark. The Yellow Jackets opened with an impressive 11-4 win over Johns Hopkins, then battled in a 7-6 loss to East Texas Baptist before falling to eventual champion Denison 6-4 in an elimination game. Led by Head Coach Brian Harrison, BW earned its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference tournament title and showcased depth, consistency, and competitiveness at the highest level.Together, these two historic seasons highlighted what an outstanding year it was for Ohio college baseball — from Granville to Berea — with both programs reaching the national spotlight right here in Northeast Ohio.
