Forecasters are warning Northeast Ohio residents to stay weather-aware this weekend. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the region under a Level 1 (Marginal) risk for tornadoes on Saturday, June 6, with the highest probability centered around Cleveland, Akron, and extending into the Pittsburgh metro area.Popular severe-weather meteorologist Ryan Hall, Y’all, highlighted the outlook Thursday afternoon, noting that the Cleveland-Akron-Pittsburgh corridor is currently the most likely spot in the entire country to see a tornado tomorrow. The risk is described as “possible” but low — part of a broader Slight Risk (Level 2) for severe thunderstorms that stretches from the Great Lakes into New England.What to expect Saturday:
- Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop in the afternoon and continue into the evening.
- Primary threats: Damaging wind gusts and large hail.
- Secondary threat: Isolated tornadoes are possible, especially in the Level 1 zone shown on the SPC outlook.
- Timing: Greatest risk between roughly 2 p.m. and midnight.
Cleveland 19 is already calling Saturday a “First Alert Weather Day” for potential severe storms. The National Weather Service offices in Cleveland and Pittsburgh have also noted the threat in their latest hazardous weather outlooks.While the overall tornado probability remains low, even a brief spin-up can cause damage. Residents in the Cleveland, Akron-Canton, and Youngstown areas should have a plan in place:
- Charge your phone and have a battery backup
- Know where your safe spot is (basement, interior room on lowest level, or storm shelter)
- Download the latest weather app and turn on severe alerts
- Avoid driving through flooded roads or under severe storms
