DESCRIPTION:Brahms Revealed\, the season-long Brahms festival\, continues with a psychological profile of the composer. Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann kicks it off with a splendorous orchestral suite by Brahms’s hero\, Johann Sebastian Bach. She follows the suite with something of a joke. When the officials at the University of Breslau awarded Brahms an honorary degree\, they hoped that he would write them a symphony. Ever bullheaded and often a tease\, Brahms instead gave them the Academic Festival Overture\, a rollicking piece packed with student drinking songs. In 1881\, Brahms poured that same free spirit into his Piano Concerto No. 2. It’s an absolute charmer for audiences\, but a bear for the pianist. A concerto with the grandeur of a symphony\, it is athletic\, turbulent\, tender\, and fiery\, and a perfect showcase for the talents of pianist and ASO Artist-in-Residence\, Anna Geniushene.

SUMMARY:Bach + Brahms
DESCRIPTION:Brahms Revealed\, the season-long Brahms festival\, continues with a psychological profile of the composer. Music Director Nathalie Stutzmann kicks it off with a splendorous orchestral suite by Brahms’s hero\, Johann Sebastian Bach. She follows the suite with something of a joke. When the officials at the University of Breslau awarded Brahms an honorary degree\, they hoped that he would write them a symphony. Ever bullheaded and often a tease\, Brahms instead gave them the Academic Festival Overture\, a rollicking piece packed with student drinking songs. In 1881\, Brahms poured that same free spirit into his Piano Concerto No. 2. It’s an absolute charmer for audiences\, but a bear for the pianist. A concerto with the grandeur of a symphony\, it is athletic\, turbulent\, tender\, and fiery\, and a perfect showcase for the talents of pianist and ASO Artist-in-Residence\, Anna Geniushene.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 7 Negative Zen w/ Lowspot\, Shame Chamber\, and Blushmark at Grog Shop Doors 7:30 PM | Show 8:30 PM ALL AGES $10 advance / $15 day of show + $3 at the door if under 21 Negative Zen is a nu-grunge / grungegaze band formed in 2022 in Youngstown\, Ohio\, by vocalist and guitarist David Van Pelt at just 16 years old. Now based in Cleveland\, the band continues to call Northeast Ohio home. As of 2026\, the lineup strictly features Van Pelt on vocals and guitar alongside Joseph Langley on bass. Rooted in the sound of ’90s grunge and 2000s alternative rock\, Negative Zen draws influence from Superheaven\, Braid\, Deftones\, Chevelle\, Shinedown\, and Alice In Chains. Their music blends grunge and shoegaze with elements of post-hardcore\, while subtle shades of blues and country find their way into the songwriting. The result is a modern rock sound that remains authentic. With a DIY approach\, an authentic presence\, and a steadily growing following\, Negative Zen has established themselves as part of a rising generation of rock bands while continuing to develop a sound distinctly their own. As they expand beyond their hometown and reach new cities and listeners\, the band is laying the groundwork for the next chapter. Negative Zen will release their debut album in 2027.
